Hello everyone, I am Jiayi😄
Hello everyone, my name is Jiayi Fang from China. I am a first-year Ph.D. student in the Social Studies Education program at Purdue University. This is a new chapter in my life, and I'd like to share a bit about my journey so far.
I earned my bachelor's degree from Ocean University of China, where I majored in Tourism Management. After graduating from OUC, I shifted my focus to education. I was raised by my dear grandma, who was a junior high school math teacher. I've always wanted to become a teacher, and I was fortunate enough to earn my graduate degree from Hiroshima University in Japan.
With my advisor, Dr. Ishida(The lady dressed in yellow top, a very wise and elegant woman), me(The one dressed in red striped top)and my fellow students under same advisor in Hiroshima University, Japan.
However, during my time in Japan, the COVID-19 came. Although I graduated successfully, I struggled to find a job. Determined, I applied to every position that matched my qualifications. After three months of job hunting, my luck turned around! At a recruitment fair, I handed my resume to a local college without expecting much, and to my surprise, they accepted me! I started working in its Education Department.
This is the beginning of my career as an academic coordinator and part-time college teacher at Chengdu College of Arts and Sciences. After a year, I transitioned to Geely University of China, where I became a full-time teacher.
(During the lockdown period of COVID-19, we had online courses with students)
I truly enjoy sharing my ideas with students and engaging with them in meaningful discussions. Moreover, I I developed a deep passion for education and felt that I could, and should, contribute to this field.
(Me in Geely University of China)
Now, in 2024, I've come to Purdue to continue exploring the field of education.
What an exciting experience it will be---I am looking forward to it!
Oh, and one more thing—did you know I can do Chinese fortune-telling? If you're interested, feel free to contact me!
